Demising Walls

If you are working with clients with pre-existing structures that need soundproofing, rest assured, SONOpan is easy to add to existing walls as you renovate for your clients.

Where to buy

STOP Sound Travel

Demising walls (the walls shared between multi-residential units) are often the most frustrating for residents when it comes to noise transmission.

It can make it difficult for condo, apartment and townhome owners to resell units if their buildings are known for significant noise traveling through walls.

Technical Details

Soundproof Existing Demising Walls

For existing noise problems, SONOpan panels can be retrofitted over an existing wall.

It’s a simple, cost-effective way to increase soundproofing without getting into major renovations or space limitations.

SONOpan New Demising Walls

Soundproof New Demising Walls

With a minimum building code of STC 50, demising walls often still transmit a significant amount of sound.

A majority of noise can be addressed with new construction projects if the developer and builders think beyond basic building codes for soundproofing. Taking the additional step of soundproofing to a level beyond the minimum benefits the developer and owners in the long term by increased salability and strong reputation.

Demising Wall Specifications

The National Building Code of Canada provides minimum specifications for airborne sound insulation, which is the ability for adjoining walls to block sound transmission.

The standard minimum STC (Sound Transmission Class) of 50 is now required of all demising walls. By adding SONOpan to the wall an STC rating upwards of 68 can be achieved.
