Davis the Contractor - Grassriver Colony School Privacy Upgrade

Overview

Building a modern educational facility requires advanced structural separation. A new K-8 school on the Grassriver Hutterite Colony property faced this exact challenge. The facility needed to ensure that classrooms remained completely private for children and teachers. Because the layout placed a huge mechanical room right beside the gym, the project required a high-performance solution. They needed a reliable system to keep the learning quarters separate while heavy equipment operated next door. Davis, the contractor for Grassriver Colony, managed the project using a professional SONOpan installation to isolate the mechanical space.

Solution

To seal off heavy equipment rooms, standard single-layer building methods are not enough. The team implemented a multi-layered privacy strategy for the walls and ceilings. This setup relied on a standard SONOpan installation. For the critical mechanical room, the crew built a wall using three technologies: standard framing, insulation, and panels. This design creates a physical barrier to stop environmental interference from traveling through the structure. Next, the team installed standard panels on the walls and ceilings of the school. The crew applied the panels directly to the ceiling of the large gym to manage the wide-open upper area.

Results

The performance of this tiered system successfully suppressed structural bleed. After the SONOpan commercial installation, daily school activities no longer suffer from interruptions between classes. These results show that combining framing, insulation, and panels creates a massive privacy barrier. The large gym environment was improved by about 80%. This ensures the school rooms are highly secure and fully separated from the heavy machinery next door.

Applications

Standard wall construction cannot handle the high containment demands of a multi-use school building. This project shows that a SONOpan commercial installation is the best way to break the mechanical link between rooms. Davis initially learned about the panels through a direct recommendation from another Hutterite community. The technical sales manager became involved during the early planning stages to provide installation knowledge over the phone. The manager then conducted a site visit, delivering a comprehensive knowledge session with a physical paper presentation and leaving material samples. This build proves that with the right materials, a builder can deliver elite room privacy, allowing a school to function seamlessly.
