SONOpan panels alone have an STC rating of 27

 

  • Panel dimensions 4 foot x 8 foot 3/4 inch thick
  • Made from 100% recycled wood, natural binders and food grade colour, they’re easy to work with and don’t contain any harsh glues or chemicals
  • Install SONOpan OVER the joists or studs on any wall or ceiling
  • SONOpan can be installed behind drywall in new construction or sandwiched between the existing and a new drywall sheet of drywall in retrofit situations

Standard Soundproofing for Ceilings STC 40-50*

Applications

  • All bathroom ceilings
  • Areas where noise needs to be significantly reduced

Installation Directions

  • Step 1 – Recommended – Add Insulation. R20 is recommended to stop resonance in an empty cavity
  • Step 2 – Install SONOpan over joists
  • Step 3 – Install drywall as usual, offsetting the seams of drywall
  • Optional – Installing 5/8″ drywall and/or insulation will improve soundproofing

Standard Soundproofing For Walls STC 34 - 45*

Applications

  • All bathroom ceilings

Installation Directions

  • Step 1 – SONOpan directly onto joists
  • Step 2 – Install 1/2″ drywall on either side
  • Optional – Installing 5/8″ drywall and/or insulation will improve soundproofing

Extreme Ceiling Applications STC 56*

  • Address loud plumbing/fan noise

Installation Directions

  • Step 1 – Recommended – Add Insulation. R20 is recommended to stop resonance in an empty cavity
  • Step 2 – Install SONOpan over joists marking out joist locations for later
  • Step 3 – Install resilient channel perpendicular to joists, follow manufacturers guide for spacing & ensure they all face the same direction
  • Step 4 – Install drywall onto resilient channel measuring screws to ensure proper install
  • Step 5 – Install 2nd sheet of drywall onto resilient channel measuring screws to ensure proper install

Installation Directions

  • Step 1 – Recommended – Add Insulation. R14 is recommended to stop resonance in an empty cavity
  • Step 2 – Install resilient channel perpendicular to joists, follow manufacturers guide for spacing & ensure they are installed in the correct orientation (drywall side up)
  • Step 3 – Install SONOpan over channels marking out joist locations for later
  • Step 4 – Install drywall onto resilient channel measuring screws to ensure proper install
  • Step 5 – Install 2nd sheet of drywall onto resilient channel

Extreme Demising walls STC 68*

Demising Wall Applications

Installation Directions

  • Step 1 – Insulate the first wall cavity R14 is recommended to stop resonance within the empty cavity
  • Step 2 – leave a 1″ gap
  • Step 3 – Erect and insulate a second 2×4 wall.

    • ALTERNATELY to save space a single 2×4 wall can be errected with staggered studs on a 2×6 top and bottom plate with weaved insulation

  • Step 3 – Install SONOpan over studs on one side marking out joist locations for later
  • Step 4 – Install drywall. 5/8 type X is recommended
  • Step 5 – Install 2nd sheet of drywall and finish as usual

Applications

  • Step 1 – Install SONOpan over existing drywall securing to joists
  • Step 2 – Install new drywall as usual, offsetting the seams of drywall from SONOpan
  • Insulation May or may not be present

Extreme Retrofit Install

Applications

  • Any bathroom with demising wall/ceiling or where plumbing/fan noise is a problem

Installation Directions

  • Step 1 – Install SONOpan over existing drywall securing to joists
  • Step 2 – Install resilient channel perpendicular to joists, follow manufacturers guide for spacing & ensure they all face the same direction
  • Step 3 – Install new drywall as usual, ensuring screws are measured. We recommend up to two sheets of 5/8
  • Insulation May or may not be present

Installation Video

Working With SONOpan

Cutting - For best cut results use a circular saw. When cutting inside, the use of a dust vacuum is recommended

Fastening - Secure SONOpan with drywall screws. If applying directly to wood 7/16 crown staples or large head nails can be used

Finishing - Seal the perimeter of the wall or ceiling and any gaps with acoustical sealant. Drywall sheets should be offset to improve soundproofing
